Using Glue When Laying Carpet

I use a straight piece of cardboard to keep the glue off all areas that won t be carpeted. This will save you from having to mask off the new carpet. Ensure the carpet is firmly in contact with the adhesive. Unroll each section of carpet and lay into the glue.

Using a notched trowel spread the adhesive onto the subfloor evenly. It needs to be spread across the tile and should not be applied in a grid method. Use a carpet roller 75 100 lbs for carpet only. Use a straight piece of wood or hard plastic to press the carpet down into the glue.

Glue down carpet tiles. 30 35 lbs for carpet and padding to roll the newly installed section if recommended by the manufacturer. Pull the carpet back into position and smooth it out until there are no wrinkles. Press the two together for a better seal while the glue is still melted. This practice is mostly reserved for home owners as removing the glue in the event of later renovation work can be tedious and may leave marks. Start in small sections so that the adhesive does not dry out too quickly.

Use a push broom to sweep the carpeting to push out any air bubbles. When spraying the glue with a simple spray gun spray the glue past the inside corners where you have to install another piece next to it. The manufacturer may recommend allowing the adhesive to set somewhat before placing the tiles. Carpet can be glued onto all types of floor so long as you have the right glue and primer if necessary.
