After the weed barrier fabric is in place you won t be able to dig the soil so do all your digging before spreading the fabric.

Then cover with a thick layer of straw mulch for veggies wood mulch for flowers shrubs and the like.
Then roll out the weed mat onto your garden bed and cut it to size with scissors.
A weed barrier is basically a piece of landscaping plastic that you are laying just underneath the soil.
Now peg it in place using either metal or plastic pegs.
Unroll the weed mat on top of the garden area.
Lay it right over top of your plants.
Because its intended to be left in place its not recommended for vegetable gardens or annual flower beds.
It will not allow weed to grow through.
On the subject of my veg garden i never till in the straw mulch as there is no need to.
Poke a few holes in it for water drainage after laying it down.
Yes i use water soaked newspaper cardboard paper grocery sacks to cover bare soil.
However it will also not allow vegetables to grow if you don t install it correctly.
